(note: in the video I say the wines are available to be shipped to the UK, but that was my error)
My friends at Taste Hungary saved the day when I was searching for a wine delivery service that allowed me to choose the wines I wanted, and would deliver without my necessarily having to join a club. I could not find one locally (in Florida), so I contacted Hungarian wineries, my number one choice for wines. None of those that I contacted could ship to the US. Miraculously, an ad popped up in my Facebook feed from Taste Hungary promoting their wine delivery service to anywhere in the US (except Alaska) for a flat shipping rate (limited time only) of $10 and I had options:

  • Join their wine club
  • Get a box of wines that they choose from their hand-picked wineries
  • Choose my own varietals from the wines their partner wineries offer

I chose a 6-bottle box of wines of my choice, including two Kopaszhegy Olaszrizling (Welsh Riesling) from Balatonfüred-Csopak, and one each of Havas & Timár Pinot Noir from Eger, Magma Kekfrankos (Blue Franc or Blaufrankisch) from Balatonfüred-Csopak, Márga Furmint Olaszrizling from Balatonfüred-Csopak, Bonsai Öregtőkés Kadarka from Szekszárd. Tasting notes accompanied the wines, providing a background of the region, the soil and climate, the process of making each wine, and a description of the taste and aroma. Some preferred food pairings are also listed. In addition, they sent some brief notes on regions in the box with a recipe card for Gulyas — real Hungarian goulash (as Americans call it).

Check out their selection and options at https://www.tastehungary.us/ for delivery in the US. They also have Facebook Live tasting sessions weekly, which are saved in a video archive on their wine club website.

And, in Budapest, they have a new wine shop near Astoria and the National Museum, located directly across the street from The Tasting Table (their event space and wine pairing dinner location, not currently open) at Bródy Sándor utca 22. They ship to countries in the EU. (I mistakenly mentioned the UK in the video, so sorry–that was my mistake).

They also offer tasting and historical tours around Budapest, and winery tours throughout Hungary. Details on those are at tastehungary.com . I used their services to create a custom-designed study abroad tour for Agricultural Business students from an upstate New York Ag & Tech college, and a faculty member who joined us said it was the most educational study abroad class their group had ever gone on.

If you join or would like to inquire about their tours, we would be grateful if you told them that HungarianAquarian.com or Getting Hungary (our Facebook page) referred you.
